The Truckee Meadows Bicycle Alliance and Dancing in the Streets are collaborating for a Ciclovia – that is where a street is closed so that people can enjoy the public space safely and for fun. Food truck Friday is funner when you dont have to deal with traffic and park far away and walk really far to get there. How do you do that you ask? Ride your bike to the free bike valet from the Truckee Meadows Bicycle Alliance.
The Southern Nevada Bicycle Coalition is doing a League Certified Instructor class in November – anyone can attend. Go to the Southern Nevada Bicycle Coalition website to contact them and learn more.
The killing of a cyclist on Reno roads might get more attention. The Truckee Meadows Bicycle Alliance and Nevada Bicycle Coalition are considering a ghost bike installation and increasing the reward leading to an arrest. The cyclist was killed on McCarran last month and the driver fled.
Want to know more about successful bicycle advocacy? The Sacramento Area Bicycle Association will be in Reno on June 21st for a ride and presentation. We will start at 9 am at the Riverside Farmers Market and ride to the Reno Public Market where we will get a presentation from their president. Even gold miners like bikes – Nevada Gold Mines are putting on Bike Rodeos in Battle Mountain on June 13 and Elko July 26th. Its for kids safety.
Free bike documentary showings and parties are going to continue in Reno and might expand across the state. This is after a successful showing at the Reno Public Market of Cycling Connections by Richard Bednarski. We gave away 50 glasses of champaign and people gobbled 50 pieces of cake. It was to celebrate the career of City of Reno Engineer Kerrie Koski and the Biggest Little Bike Network.
There are free community bike rides on Wednesdays at sunset in Las Vegas and Reno. In Reno they start at Believe Plaza. In Las Vegas, its at first and Gas.

LEFT turns only?! Why is this bill not addressing ALL controlled intersections that do not respond to a bicycle or motorcycle not triggering them??!!
I’m told that Assemblyman Sprinkle, the main author of the bill, asked us to stop the e-mail campaign. Our goal was to let them know that lots of bicyclists care about these issues. I would say, “Mission accomplished!” in spades. Thanks for all of your efforts. – Terry
